- SKOGSGOSPEL

"One delightful wave."
-DUBLAB

"Simultaneously a simple, enjoyable listen and a demanding sonic voyage - one of the best releases of 2012."
- THE ASTRAL PLANE

"Simultaneously beautiful and jarring, familiar and strange, occasionally haunting, and frequently whimsical, this album is a fully realized collection of songs representing an artist at his prime. "
- VARIANCE MAGAZINE

The songs on Baldessari are named after works by or about the following artists:

Paul Gauguin
Pierre Bonnard
Arthur Dove
Raoul Dufy
Vincent Van Gogh
Henri Matisse
Georgia O’Keeffe
Franz Kline
Howard Finster

The song “Georgia, 1931” is not based on a painting, but a letter written in July of 1931 from Georgia O’Keeffe to the art critic Henry McBride (though this letter also references her painting “The Lawrence Tree” – itself the subject of another song on this album.

The album artwork is a depiction of John Baldessari's 1971 video piece "I am making art."

The following instruments were used to make this record:

Casio Sk-10 toy keyboard
Yamaha PortaSound PSS-130
ukulele
an old iphone
Campbell’s soup can
broken Danelectro guitar

Also, a freeware program called AudioPaint was used to convert images of paintings referenced throughout the record into sounds that were then incorporated into the songs.
